I love the Scrumble River mysteries. Ms. Swanson is a delightful writer. Skye Denison, her main character, is always fun to follow. The mysteries are good, and the secondary characters quirky. The town itself plays a huge part in making the novels work. While SNAKE IN THE GRASS isn't the best in the series, it's good. I didn't like Skye's ex-Luc. He was too smarmy. Made me wonder why she ever bothered with him. And that, somehow, bothered me, and detracted from this book receiving 5 stars. But a Scumble River fan will like it.

Another Skye Denison (school psychologist) Scumble River Mystery. This time the crime centers around the Scumble River Bicentennial. Skye's ex-fiancee Luc makes an appearance in the book and stays too long. Simon the mortician is still hanging in there along with Wally, the police chief. Skye is growing closer to Justin and Frannie, two of her "nerdy" students.
Yet another in the wonderful series of books. I've just about read every one in the series. The characters are so well developed that it's quite easy to picture them in your mind. Ms. Swanson has collected for us a series of humorous, yet totally believable characters that you'll come to know and care for as I have. And, I, having grown up in a small town in the Midwest, she certainly captures the small-town atmosphere, complete with the small town gossip!
I was so happy to find this book. I was having a terrible time finding it in my my home town and surrounding towns. I just happened to look on and found where there were used books for sale and couldn't believe the luck and the pricing! It would've cost me more to keep calling around & driving around to try and find it. The seller didn't do the book justice. It was in immaculate condition and it also had a personalized signature from the author. The estimated shipping was about 2 weeks from the time it went out and it actually showed up on the earliest possible date it could arrive. So, I am beyond pleased and will most definitly buy from the used section of again!
Skye Denison is an amazing character. After giving a high school speech that lets the community know just what she thinks of them, she ends up some years later coming back broke and dumped by her fiance. The community has not forgotten her speech.

Now, while Scumble River is in the thick of its bicentennial celebration, her ex-fiance comes back and a murder comes in.
Skye always had guts and compassion but she has grown.
I'm already standing in line for "Murder of a Barbie and Ken", the next Scumble River book, due out November, 2003.
Denise Swanson never lets a reader down and the Scumble River series is not to be missed.
Skye always gets involved in the latest murder whether she wants to or not. Read this one a get a surprise in the outcome
you hit this one out of the ball park of the books. this is a great read. I found it delightful with the right amount of humor in it. I recommend this book and all of Ms.Swanson's Scumble River books in this series. Even though it is a fictional place it feels like my small home own just like this one. Any way it is a place you can revisit as often as you want to in your mind. At the end of the day to relax from all the hustle and bustle of every day life.
The bicentennial celebrations in Scumble River are in full swing. A descendant of the original Scumble is in attendance. Skye's love life is ever more confusing. Things are going well with Simon, but she still has feelings for Wally, and to make things worse, her ex fiance` seems to want her back. As usual, there is a particularly tricky problem with one of the children at the High School. Skye doesn't need another murder investigation right now, but when Gabriel Scumble is found murdered on the bandstand at the celebration and her ex is implicated, Skye has to get involved. If only to get him out of her life forever.
This series keeps getting better and better. The characters are quirky and fun and the problems of the residents of Scumble River are very realistic. I read this one in one sitting and look forward to the next.
